Tech Tips

_?    Hey all you tube amp fanatics, here's a real simple tip: When you're using a tube amp and you're done with the gig, turn the amp off but don't move it for at least five minutes.   How come? This allows the preamp, rectifier and power tube filaments to cool down. If the filaments are still hot when you move or jar the amp, they are susceptible to stretching or breaking, leading to premature tube failure.

_?    When you're done using your battery powered effects pedals, always remember to disconnect any patch cables. How come? Because as long as the cables are plugged into the pedal, the pedal is on. That's why your stompbox is always dead the morning after you practiced and left everything hooked up. Take the extra minute to disconnect all effects cables. That way you can spend your money on things besides batteries. Like a tuner.

_?    Ever notice how when you're plugged into a stompbox, then into your amp, your tone is usually colored in some way? Which makes sense - your signal is going through additional circuitry. Some folks can't hear and most others don't care. But here's one for you $50 guitar cable tone-freaks: Wiring Instructions and wiring diagram courtesy of the very cool cats at Fulltone, a site you should check out.
Modify at your own risk. And before you tear apart your dad's 1960's wah, ask yourself if it's a change your audience (heck, your band) would really notice. Assign level of tone-freakness accordingly...
